101 Dive Sabah and Labuan @ Beyond Sipadan

101 Dive Sabah and Labuan jointly organised by Tourism Malaysia Kota Kinabalu and Sabah Tourism Board is with the aim of promoting diving destinations beyond Sipadan Islands of Mabul, Kapalai and Sipadan.

We are lucky enough to dive the islands of Si Amil, Denawan, Sibuan, Mantabuan and Boehy Dulang. Of which all of these islands are potential day trip diving sites with untouched and white sand beaches welcoming any tourist for day trip outings.

Below are some pictures taken during our visits

World Eco Tourism Forum, Banjarmasin

Recently we have the opportunity to being a sponsored buyer for the World Eco Tourism Forum held in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan by Ministry of Tourism and Culture Indonesia.

This forum brings together buyers and sellers from all over the world and Indonesia together in Banjarmasin. We have buyers from Malaysia (yours truly), Korea, Germany, and Holland. Sellers comes from all corners of Indonesia; Jawa, Sumatera,North and South Kalimantan, Flores, South Sulawesi as well as Bali.

We have the honor to be the State VIP and being welcome by the Bhuparti as well as hosted to state dinner by the Governor. Banjarmasin is basically a mining town which is slowly opening up to tourist in the field of nature as well as mining. Diamond and coal mining is the main economic contributors. Banjarmasin is one the few places you can find black diamond besides Africa ! Special tours can be arrange to visit this diamond mining side.

However Banjarmasin and the towns nearby also offer much. The nature retreat at Loksado for example is a hidden treasure to the nature lover.
Bamboo rafting down the Amandit river is an all new experience.

Here is a short footage of the Bamboo rafting that we did in Loksado.

Roach Reefs Resort, Tawau Sabah

Roach Reefs a man made island located off the coast of Tawau, is a true retreat for those who love to go back to basic and nature. The island is probably the size of a football field or smaller.

Have only 8 chalets and are surrounded by the sea so sea breeze comes from all directions.
Open the front the door or the rear balcony you'll get to see the sea. The night skies are a beauty when this resort is the only lights that is in the middle of Celebes Sea.

The muck diving is an adventure all together and it is also an alternative to Sipadan diving, which is less then 90mins away on a good day !

This is where you want to be nearest to nature; sun sea and sand !

RAJA AMPAT INDONESIA

The next frontier in Papua Indonesia. Raja Ampat* means "the four ′kings′", a name dating back to the 15th century, when the Sultanate of Tidore - one of the muslim sultanates in the original Maluku west of Halmahera - appointed four local "rajas" in Misool, Salawati, Batanta and Waigeo.

Raja Ampat Dive Lodge is located at the heart of the most spectacular diving in northern Raja Ampat. Mere minutes from the famous Manta aggregation sites and the fish-filled dives at the western edge of the Dampier Strait, our intimate lodge is the prefect place to experience the most bio-diverse reefs in the world

Tasik Ria Resort & Spa , Manado

Tasik Ria Resort, Spa & Tasik Divers Manado - North Sulawesi

North Sulawesi's unique resort for divers, families and adventure seekers

About 30 minutes drive from the hustle & bustle of Manado is Tasik Ria Resort & Spa. Here with its peaceful and scenic palm fringed backdrop is a family owned and run resort that offers not only luxury and comfort but also a level of warmth and hospitality which in today's frantic world is such a rarity.
With the Bunaken National Park only a 45 min boat ride away, you can be assured of some of the best diving in the world. At Tasik Divers we can say we truly look after divers and non-divers alike!
Manado, once described in guide books as one of Indonesia's cleanest cities, has changed a lot in recent years. After a period of neglect at the end of the 90's a huge building boom has started alongside the so-called "Manado Boulevard", the city's main road. Large areas have been gained by land reclamation projects along what used to be the city's coastline. New malls, shopping centers, department stores, hotels and restaurants have opened or are still being built. Especially the area around the Mega Mall, just a few hundred meters south of the city's landmark Ritzy Hotel, has become a new center of attraction and popular meeting point.

The mall itself - apart from the usual Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken - has some very reasonable shops and at present is one of Manado's few places where you can get a good cappuccino and other hot and cold coffee drinks. Some other parts of the city are still in a less good shape but efforts are underway to prepare Manado for the "World Ocean Conference" (2009) and for "Manado: World Tourism City 2010". Yet garbage collection doesn't always work as it should, road conditions are sometimes poor, and power & tab water supply is often problematic. However, compared to a couple of years ago improvements are clearly visible. In any case you are hopefully not visiting North Sulawesi with the expectation of everything being like at home.

Be a bit open-minded and adventurous and a stay in Manado with its hospitable and fun-loving population will be a pleasant experience. However, in terms of typical tourist sites it doesn't have much to offer, so if you don't have lots of time better don't consider spending too much of it in the city. Rather go for some of the many attractions in the surroundings which are described on this site.
